Ladies' Home Journal

I was excited to see the latest issue of Ladies' Home Journal feature this story in their March issue.

I had the privilege of meeting both Editorial Assistant Amelia Harnish and Health Director Julie Bain during a girlfriends trip to NY City this winter. Amelia gave my friends, Rebecca and Lesle, and I a tour of Ladies' Home Journal.

David Molar and his wife Tammy did the photo shoot for the magazine. They are such a great couple with such amazing talent. If you ever have the chance to see David's work, check it out.

One of my favorite photo of the day was of our family.

It's ironic that the article came out the day I was being released from the hospital. This is the first time in a long time that I have felt very sick. I am still recovering from the RSV, pneumonia, and infection. It has been a harder road then I expected. I do feel so thankful for all of the prayers, letters, meals, gifts and well wishes from everyone to keep my spirits up. I am trying to reflect on present blessings and all of the amazing things God has done in my life, to bring me to where I am this day.

Soul Surfer

Movie Review: Soul Surfer

Tonight I went out with a bunch of my girlfriends to see Soul Surfer. It is a movie about the true life story of Bethany Hamilton who lost her arm in a shark attack. It was an overall great movie. It was very touching, inspiring, powerful and a very family friendly movie. I especially loved the beautiful scenes of Hawaii and watching Bethany's faith play out in the film. Her message about God doing good through bad circumstances really meant a lot to me and our family, personally. I hope everyone gets to witness this Soul Surfer.

For the love of CHEESE

I would love to see an event like this going down Jockey's Ridge!

What people do for the love of cheese...

Chasing cheese at Cooper's Hill, Richings Park, England

Mike Rugel/Trazzler

Anyone who can chase a wheel of cheese up or down a hill is welcome to compete at the Cooper's Hill Cheese-Rolling. There are five downhill cheese races (one is for ladies) and four uphill races (boys under 12, girls under 12, men's open and women's open). At the top of the hill, competitors (any number from two to a maximum of about 20) sit in a line and wait. The master of ceremonies escorts an invited guest to the start line and helps him/her to sit on the precipitous slope, holding an eight-pound wheel of Double Gloucester. The guest "roller" releases the cheese, which proceeds to roll down the hill at great speed. The MC gives the racers the signal, and the competitors hurl themselves down the slope after the runaway dairy product. The first person to arrive at the foot of the hill wins the cheese.

Date Night: Secretariat

My husband and I went on a lovely date. We went to the cheapest theater in town and ate popcorn and candy. It was delightful and we thoroughly enjoyed this feel good movie. It was about the greatest racing thoroughbred of his time, Secretariat.

The movie begins with a beautifully written verse. Job 39: "Do you give the horse his strength, or clothe his neck with a flowing mane?" I really enjoyed it. My husband walked away saying it was his, "favorite horse racing movie." The ending left you with the tune, "Oh Happy Day" lingering in your mind. It was a happy day indeed.
